What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine, also known as alternative, integrative, or holistic medicine, is a comprehensive approach to wellness that goes beyond treating symptoms.

Instead of masking issues, it seeks to identify & address the root causes of health challenges. By understanding the deeper connections between symptoms and underlying conditions, functional medicine empowers individuals to achieve true, lasting wellness.

FAQs

What is functional medicine and how does it differ from traditional (or conventional) medicine?

Functional medicine is an approach that focuses on understanding and addressing the underlying causes of health issues rather than just treating symptoms. It integrates aspects of traditional medicine with a holistic perspective, considering factors like nutrition, lifestyle, hormonal balance, and the interconnectedness of bodily systems. We go back to basics and search for the root cause. To create personalized treatment plans, we may use comprehensive assessments, such as diagnostic test results, medical history, dietary habits, and lifestyle factors. This can include dietary changes, supplements, compounded prescriptions, IV therapies, stress management techniques, and other non-invasive therapies to promote overall wellness and reproductive health.

Is functional gynecology covered or billable to my insurance?

We do not bill insurance nor provide super bills / itemized receipts for submission to insurance, as functional gynecology is not a covered service.
All visits with us are self-pay. The rates & fees for the visits are non-negotiable. Additionally, many of the tests/labs required for a complete & comprehensive evaluation are not covered by insurance because they are considered elective or specialized diagnostic tests.

What kinds of concerns can we help with?

Fatigue, PCOS, PMS, migraines, weight gain, peri-menopause, menopause, recurrent vaginal infections, hair loss, low sex drive, pelvic pain, endometriosis, chronic Lyme, mold toxicity, chronic inflammatory response syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, and more!

What tests/labs will I need to complete?

This is different for each patient, depending on their complaints.
We will inform you during your initial consultation, and a staff member will reach out to you via email 1-3 days afterward and send a personalized plan.

I just had my consultation, and I have additional medical questions; what do I do?

All medical-related questions require follow-up scheduled visits.

We cannot provide medical advice over email unless it is a logistical or technical question.

What is the total cost of functional medicine?

This can vary from patient to patient depending on their treatment plan and if they are choosing a carte service or packaged rates.

Once a patient has a functional consultation with Dr Gupta, they can choose to continue "al a carte" services with follow-ups on an as-needed basis or choose one of the plan packages depending on the concern(s) they want to address.

We can offer an initial discovery package that includes 3 visits :

1st - initial detailed evaluation and testing recommendations,

2nd- testing results discussion and an extremely detailed treatment plan,

3rd - initial treatment follow up for $1400.

If you choose to go with a comprehensive package, we can roll over the consultation costs into the package costs (the first month will be more expensive due to the extensive involvement in testing and evaluation).

I sent an email a few hours ago and haven’t heard back!

It can take 1-3 business days to respond to emails for logistical or technical questions. If you have purchased a plan package, we will respond within 24hrs.

If you are having a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.

I had a scheduled visit and wasn't even seen; why do I have a bill?

If you had a scheduled visit, did not show up, canceled less than 48 hrs before the visit, or showed up past 10 minutes late, you will incur a $150 no-show fee as outlined on the website and prior to your consultation. Dr. Gupta blocks off her schedule months ahead for these specialized visits, hence the no-show.
